Hi folks

I have a Dwarf Gourami in a community tank, all the stats are good, 0,0,20 with a ph 7.5.

The Dwarf Gourami has lost its appetite and looks a little bloated. Yesterday I noticed it was trailing a long white/transparent poo that seemed to have white dots/lumps in it. It has become a bit lethargic and hangs at the bottom of the tank when he used to be first up to the top at feeding time.

Not sure quite what to do next? Does it need treatment or will time solve it?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Unfortunately it sounds like it may be an internal parasite. I treated my tank with Seachem Metronidazole as instructed on the package & whatever I had went away. You can also add it with live or frozen food but I guess that wouldn't work if your guy isn't eating.

Hi I had read that was a possibility, but I'm in th UK and Seachem Metronidazole seems to be not available.. . .

Is there anything else available?

Jungle Labs sells the following:

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=Jungle's+internal+parasite+guard&hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7ADRA_en&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1348&bih=633&wrapid=tlif132613768646410&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=8333682679612631805&sa=X&ei=W0ELT_anBsyltweprM3PBg&ved=0CG4Q8wIwAQ#

It's meant for external parsites but I believe they have an internal parasite version, I just don't know what it's called.

Thanks for the info

Unfortunately, the fish has now died. It was quite bloated and became less and less active. I checked on the tank and the gourami was below the surface but seemed to be gasping and moving its mouth quickly. Half an hour later I found it on the bottom of the tank. Very sad.

It hadn't lost its colour. Is this something that is likely to affect the whole tank?

Thanks

It's very hard to say. Some people would recommend treating the whole tank as a precaution but others would say to wait and see if any other fish show signs of parasites before medicating.

I feel for your loss. I lost a beautiful Flame Dwarf male & two Powder Blue females when I first began this hobby. I believe it was Dwarf Gourami disease since no other fish died at the time & there were Neons, Glowlights, Kuhlis, Ghost Shrimp & a Molly at the time.
