hi, i just set up another tank in my living room. its a juwel rekord 800 120L. i have a green severen and 4 gourami's. the water quality is spot on and has been monitored closely. today we added the fish an all seems well other than the gold gourami lays over the filter where the pump sucks in water. it's like the fish is being sucked up by the filter. the fish will only move if i distured it. why does the fish do this. is this normal?

Thanks

It is not normal for a fish to just lay around on things in the tank. What are your ammonia and nitrite readings? I expect that a tiny tank like you have will have trouble with all of your present stock. My daughter breeds severums and keeps a single pair, with no other fish, in a 75 gallon tank. An adult severum is a good 7 or 8 inches long, 4 inches tall and quite heavy bodied. When fry are born in that tank, she moves them out after the first week to raise them in another large tank until they are big enough to sell at ma little over an inch long. They will lay 200 to 300 eggs in one go.

we only have the one severum and he's only a baby so eggs or the tank size is not a problem, the problem was with the gold gourami shortly after he was introduced to the tank, the other gourami's are fine and well, shortly after i posted the message the fish fell to the bottom of the tank and passed away, i can only assume that it was a sick fish before he arrived and the stress of moving it was to much.

thanks anyway
