Hi im fairly new to aquariums but i know a little bit and have experienced freinds that can keep me out of trouble if an accident ever happens

I have a ten gallon tank with bubbler and internal corner filter.

My dream would be to have a male betta, cherry shrimp, and 4 neon tetras

is this possible?

what steps do I need to take to ensure maximum compatibilty
(such as introducing a certain fish first or last)

is a bubbler and filter going to create too much current for my little these fish

anything else I should know?

thank you.

Betta and shrimp would be fine, and the tank is ideal. The problem would be the neons with the betta. Neon tetras like to nip fins. Bettas have long, flowing fins and are slow moving. Usually keeping long finned bettas with tetras is not recommended, and the shorter finned varieties tend to bite the tetras. There are some people who have kept bettas with neons and never had the slightest problem at all, so you could try it... I'm going to go with Andy's (bronzecat) best quote here and say that for any tank mates have a backup plan: have somewhere else to move the fish or somebody else who can take them, either another tank for the betta or an alternative home for the little fish, in case they don't get on. It's certainly worth a try.

I would go for it in a 20 gallon or larger tank Deficit. If you have room for lots of neons, they are less aggressive fin nippers and the betta and shrimp will be less likely targets for them. Keep in mind the colors in the tank. The cherries and neons both have a reddish color to them but you would want a betta that mixed in with either the red or blue of the neon to have them really look nice together.

Hi

One thing I would add is to have plenty of real or silk plants. Bettas and Tetras love them, and it helps to give them their own space :)

Yeah id love to have some plants but I dont know if they need special maintenance. all I have is gravel too so i dunno if id need new subrstrate. Fake ones are fine too but i need to research plants first before I plan my plants out
Thanks for the advice guys and keep it coming cause im always willing to learn

Java Fern or some varieties of Anubias attached to a rock or small piece of bogwood/marsh root are good for small tanks, as they are quite easy care plants and you can move them around when cleaning. They also provide nice leaves for the Betta to rest on. :good:

oooh that plant looks cool ill check with my freind at the fish store to see if he has that in stock

that plant is a definite yes
