Opcn is correct, heavily egg laiden females do, sometimes,
have an inabillity to fully close their mouths.
Other possibilitys are a tumor growing inside the mouth, or a genetic
abnormalitiy. As this fish seems to have been cured I'd say it was the eggs causing a discomfort on the gills and therefore she was unable to close her mouth.
