anybody? you can just see at the front of his 'chest' the large round bulge, the photo doesnt really show just how big it is :(

It doesn't seem so big in the photo. What foods do you normally feed and how often? Dropsy is always something to watch out for, so if you see his scales start to raise away from the body like pineconing you'll need to treat pretty quickly.

at the moment he looks like he"s swalloxed a marble its so big :(
diet is a few hikari bites a day, 5 times a week, he also eats blood worms once a week (about three worms) and a pea once a week.

What are your water stats?
What size tank is he in?
How often are you doing water changes?
Have you seen him poop?

If he's constipated then you could stop feeding for 48hrs and see if this makes a difference.

Don't forget to check his scales by looking down on him from above. If you see any signs of him starting to pinecone you'll need to treat immediately as Dropsy can kill them very quickly.

ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 10 today
24Ltank

weekly water change of about 30%

no i have not seen him poop which is what lead me to believe bloated/constipation? he's even bigger today, already fasted for 24hrs will give it another day of no food

Well your stats and what you are doing are fine. Certainly doesn't sound like he's being overfed....just bunged up, if he's not pooping. Let us know how he is after another 24hrs of not feeding.

Hi, Spishkey,
hope he's doing better now?
I've never fed Hikari Bites but the Hikari foods I have are pellets - I was wondering, if he's mostly eating pellets, are they usually soaked?
Because sometimes they can block the gut, if they don't absorb enough water to break up easily, and it occurred to me that this might possibly be a problem?
Hope to hear good news soon, and good luck.
P.S. - haven't been on much lately, hope your daughter's doing well?

I dont feed any of my bettas the food you do either. I have a special Grow food from my aquarium guys and that has every thing in it. Mine get a pea every week or so. But they generally dont eat it. Ramjet was constipated once and i tried to give him a pea but he didnt take to it. So he went a couple of days without food and i did a water change and he did one straight away. I only noticed his belly from the front. It was like a marble to. If your really worried just cut back on the food intake for a couple of days.

try using a mirror to make him flare. it might help stimulate him to go...mine always poos when he flares. just a thought

well still no poops and the bulge is bigger, taking on a slight bluey tinge under the skin. im hoping its not a tumour or something???

should i try another pea today?

Have you tried Epsom Salts in the water?
They cause an increase in moisture uptake and are often successful in enabling constipated fish to poop.

i dont have any epsom salts just table salt is that any good? :( also there is apple snails in the tank, i guess they'd have to be removed?

No, sorry, Spishkey, table or aquarium salt would have the opposite effect and NOT be a good idea.
Could try checking a drugstore for magnesium salts, as they're popular in, I think/hope, many countries for soaking human sore bodies in...???
