I am currently getting more detals of the kit....

I have just heard further:

Its just a standard jewel rio heater and filter, there is a lot of live rock, T5 lighting, protein skimmer (might need a good clean as i had taken it out to fit a part just needs fitting back in) there are 3 hermit crabs, a yellow tail and a domino.

well, looks good as it is lol!

that tank and the skimmer depending on brand sounds good!

just depends on how much LR aswell =]

but if its 10Kg's + it'd still be worth it in my eyes ;D

Excellent tank, ideal - and if it has t5 lighting then all you need to do for now is change to marine bulbs (also as it has T% lighting it is the newer version)

and all marine equipment protein skimmer

this could be next to useless - all according what it is?

how much live rock - a bargain would be £5 for a kilo of good rock

Sound reasonable for £170? got potential?

Massive potential - I wouldn't take the fish though, ask him to take the fish to the lfs

sounds like a bargain - got any pictures so we can better tell?

I am currently getting more detals of the kit....

Cheers for the replies guys, I am currently finding out about the live rock and the equipment specs.

Anyone got any stocking ideas if i go for it?

cheers

They reckon there is around 30kg of live rock, what do you think?

Thinking i would have to get a external filter too to replace the internal...

is it just me, or is it meant to look that color :S?

Im a marine newbie and its looks slightly 'off', think its a half attemt at a marine tank?

I think ill have to buy:
1- an external cannister
2- a powerhead or 2
3- marine lighting
(already has a skimmer which will do for the time being)

however...

I have just seen this:

* TMC V2 Nano Skimmer 120
* Fluval Powerhead
* Hydor Koralia Powerhead
* Eheim external filter 2213

sound more promising?

how much is the other tank?

although, if the LR in the other tank is all good, and is in at 30-40Kg's that is a bargain!!

Well, that's a LOT of cyanobacteria. If you've got the patience to give it a month or so to cycle out and are dilligent enough to siphon off the cyano bloom, then sure, that would be a fine tank. You would definitely save yourself a TON of cash too...

I'm sort of guessing it was filled with tap water, i would plan on doind regular RO water changes, syphoning alot of the cyanno out, i have no problem it taking effort and some time. after all it would save me a load of cash!

this may be a stupid Q but... how do i check the rock which is in it is infact reasonable live rock?

all your help is very much appreciated!

I reckon i can get it (the empty tank) for £140ish however it is about 50 miles away and I'd have to sort live rock aswell...

i think itd be worth it!

just needs a bit of tlc but you will save a heck of a lot of money!

I had a cyano bloom like that in my tank. It took about 2.5 to 3 weeks hard work, syphoning everyday, reducing feeding (you should not need to feed) reducing lighting to 6-7 hrs a day and using a double dose of phosphate remover. I was also wterchanging everyday with the syphoning. Yes its hard work, it will though save you the money, filling with fresh salted RO will of course help you a great deal here. I also found that regularly blowing the rocks off using a Turkey Baster (IMO essential piece of kit) does help a great deal.

sounds roughly like the plan i had in my head, would think of getting a couple of powerheads sharpish and aiming them 'strategically'! should help break it up.

cannot really think of extra thing to add to my shopping list apart from:

1- salt
2- refractometer
3- RO kit
4- decent test kit (have a tropical one but should get a more comprehensive marine one)
5- already got a turkey baster!

Reccomendations for 1-4 would be appreciated, plus anything you want to add to my list.

cheers
