hi there, yesturday I found my fish had produced another 11 fry. i'm not sure whether they were born yesterday or a week ago but when you consider they have survived 90% waterchages I think I'm calling them Lucky. anyway, the only fish that looked smaller after finding the fry was a silver lyre tail molly. She wasn't very huge just a little plumper and considering the fry total is 11 that would, i assume, explain why she was so small. the fry are smaller than the ones born on 13th feb, so would fry kept in a hatchery be bigger than fry surviving in a tank with whitespot treatment going on,....the hatchery is in the same tank, but the treatmwnt seems to stay away from the hatchery it seems. as she is a silver is it possible for her to have yellow fry? 023.JPG

do these look like platy fry or molly fry

Fry surviving in a tank getting ich treatments are definitely the survivor type. Once the treatments are finished, they should fare well in your tank. If they are more than merely clear fish with eyes, chances are they came from your molly Jayne. Extremely small fry are not a typical thing to see from mollies. Molly fry are often quite large compared to other common livebearers who were dropped at the same time.

I've come to conclsion they are platy fry. Been looking on internet for pics and the abdomen on mollys are different.
anyway. OM47 any chance you can give me some advise. I am totally in love with platys now are plan on setting up the other tank with the platy fry, and when they grow up keeping one from each birthing...one from Honey, one from Pepper ( both of whom are no longer with us) so a few more of my females are showing signs of pregnancy too, at least I hope its pregnancy and not dropsy. ( Honey had dropsy....down to infection of fry stuck in birthing canal) I nunderstand experience is better than a book, but is there a book on the market that has everything there is to know about platys.
especially the colour variations, and the genetics...as I hold a degree in genetics, I would love to learn the modes of inheritance for the colour variations. If their are no books for this, do you know any websites which could help me out...
plus in whitespot treatment, my ammonia levels are increasing daily, causing 50% waterchanges....is the treatment wiping out my bacs, and if so how long will it take my tank to recover..
also, with whitespot, how long after loosing the spots are the fish supposed to stop flicking against decor....only one fish has spots left, but 2 others are still flicking.

thanks in advance
