Is It Possible To "over-heat" A Tank (with 2 Heaters)?

I think when it comes to choosing a filter (external, internal, hang on backs etc), you can never over filtrate a tank, since the more filtration, the better.

But if you have 2 heaters in a tank instead of 1, can this be bad for the fish? By 2 heaters, both are the same size and each one is sufficient for the size of my tank. I currently have a 300W heater in my 240L tank but recently bought a spare 300W one and wasnt sure if I should put it in the tank too.

I've set the heater to 26oC but I've noticed the temp swings from around 24-28oC throughout the day, is this normal or is this a sign that I need to put another heater in the tank?

quite abnormal i think.

heaters cut off when the waters a certain temp so having 2 is fine cos they wont keep heating till theyve both been on a while.

theyll work to heat it to the temp you want and hold it.

as for that temp swing, dnt think its a good thing!!

is your tank in the sun alot?

Thanks for the replies.

SamUK, no the tank isnt near the sun at all. The problem is, the thermometer is placed on one end of the tank whereas the heater is on the other end.

The temp swing, to be more accurate is more like 24.8oC - 27.2oC, so its more like a +/- 1.2oC swing and not a plus/minus 2oC change.

Maybe adding another heater will reduce the temp swings.

yea it could help stabilise it a bit.

i have a 300w heater in my 80G tho and that temp stays the same throughout the day.

maybe try the new heater inplace of the old one.

see if it does a better job?

having sed that tho, 2 heaters in the tank is always a good thing incase one breaks.
