So I have a 10 gallon tank with 1 Betta fish, 1 Mollie and 3 Platy's, 2 female 1 male.
Do you think my platy's will mate even given the small tank and other fish? I realize the babies probably wont make it to the first week with the betta around, although I do have alot of plants and a few structures to hide it, I am in the process of converting from plastic to live plants and have 2 live plants and 5 plastic and silk ones.
So what are the chances
And if I do have a chance, how can I encourage thisÉ
Thank you!

Platies will breed without any assistance.
Do you have another tank to keep them in, as if you save the babies you will soon be overstocked.
I find the platy babies very good survivers compared to my guppy. They know how to hide and avoid the adults, so if you have enough staff in the tank for them to hide, some will survive. The betta isn't very fast and may not be able to catch them at all.

No I just have the one tank but I have friends with fish tanks that im sure would love some new friends, and I sure hope that they do have babies :) I want some friends too!

When the babies are small, they hide a lot(platies are cheeky) and you won't see them unless looking for them. They could be between the gravel, under decoration, etc...So just keep an eye.

You will get babies in massive numbers, so many that you won't know what to do with them. I hope you have A LOT of friends with tanks they can go to.

I think my betta will handle some of them sadly, natural selection I'm afraid. I just kind of find it weird that I've had platys for nearly a year now and seen no babies

I've also added some java fern and a lot more live plants, I only have 2 plastic ones left, so that will give a lot of protection

Same happened to me, never so much as saw a fry. The rest of the community saw to that.

Your betta will eat any fry unfortunately! I managed to save a few platy fry in my tank and kept them in a fry net.I have just let them out and they are 2 months old i have 2 female bettas in my tank and so far they have left them alone.

I'll definitely invest in a fry net. I'm also thinking about getting a larger tank and expanding my platy school size and leaving the tank I currently have as a fry tank

Please bear in mind that platies can have 30+ fry per drop, and will drop every 4-6 weeks. If you save them all, you will soon be overrun with fry, which will lead to filtration problems. Platy fry are not the easiest to find new homes for, because they are so cheap and easily obtainable from other sources.

A betta is not a certain control method. This guy lived in my overcrowded endler tank with a constant supply of fry for about 5 years. He was a total failure at fry control.
