Is It Okay To Break A Piece Of Bogwood?

Hey all!

Quick question:

I've found a piece of bogwood I like, but it's just the tiniest little bit too big for my tank. It's quite a rooty piece, and I think I could easily break off a few centimetres at the back without ruining the look of the piece.

Is this okay to do? I'm not going to be releasing toxins into the water or anything by exposing the inside of the wood or anything, am I?

No, it's fine. You might find it releases a bit more tannin, but it's quite safe

Rather than break it off I'd saw it off. Other than that, it would be fine.

Glad to hear it. I've ordered my wood now. There was a piece I really liked, it was exactly what I was looking for but the tiniest bit too big to fit in my tank.

Sawing is fine but it doesnt give you that "natural" look. Much better to snap it.
