I was wondering if it is ok to feed my community fish some bread? I know in the wild if they had the opportunity they would go for it. Was wondering if it would affect their health if i did?

I have no idea, sorry, but that is an interesting question. I'd like to know too!

Bread swells quite a bit in water, as with ducks they can probably over-eat very easily. But then again, so do fish flakes. Ya I know, big help that was!

tiny (and i mean tiny) crumbs are ok every once in a while. But don't over do it. Bread does swell up and will cause big problems inside the fish.

Thanks

oh that's cool, maybe I'll try adding a few crumbs one day if I run out of bloodworms, lol. I mean, it's always fun to try something new and see how your fish react. Unless they hate it ... :/

I

I dont think I would feed them bread crumbs. Like the other members said, bread swells. A lot of the time it will swell once it is inside the fish and it can harm them. If you want to experiment with food, get a cucumber and let it float in your tank. The fish love it! But make sure you take it out within 24 hours so that it does not rot. I have seen many different kinds of vegetables in tanks, but I have found the cucumber to be the most popular!

In my previous life as a fisherman  oh god I said it! I can remember someone telling me something like bombarding a pond with bread based groundbait in time helped reducing oxygen in the water or something like that.

That being so I would put bread in my tank.

There again I could be talking b*****ks again

About the swelling problem- You could just soak a few crumbs in a cup of tankwater for a minute or so.

I wouldn't do it, but I have plenty of other things to give as a treat.

I don't know about bread, but one of my coworkers occasionally throws in cheerios with a lot of different fish.
