Is It Normal For My Common Plec To Change Colour?

I have has two plecos in the past but sadly they passed away sometime ago. I recently bought another common pleco. Everything seems fine, it is eating well and swims around cleaning the glass and ornaments. However, I have noticed that sometimes it looks quite transparent and light and at other times it looks very dark and bold.

Is this normal, as I never seen changes like this with my other plecos (which I had for about 2 years).

plecs will never go transparent, but will change slighly depending on substrate and surroundings
