Hi Everyone,

I have recently bought a 5 gallon aquarium , with 2 head and tail fish in it !! After 1 week i have notice that his fin was shredded , i was wondering if it is cause by Fin rot illness or fin nipping by the other fish ??? PS:i have attach the picture of the fish Head and tail fish.png

it looks like fin rot to me which could have been a secondary infection due to fin nipping, I would seek a second opinion to mine though!

Yes there is only 2 tetra ( head and tail fish ) !! do u think it is fin rot ??

yep could be, if you got more it may stop them nipping each other so much

do frequent water changes so the water is really clean and it'll heal up. If it doesn't try using melafix.

Second the water changes... battling this myself at the moment and doing 50-80% daily water changes... most of mine are improving.

I have just set up my aquarium 2 weeks ago , the aquarist where i bought the fish told me to wait 1 month before changing 1/3 of the water in the aquarium because of the cycling process occurring in the aquarium !!? Should i change it now or wait some few days  ??

Change it! Rule number one - never listen to LFS. Come here instead, we are concerned about the welfare of fish, LFS only want to sell. If you don't change it, your fish are most likely going to die within this month due to ammonia and / or nitrite poisoning. Have you read up on fish-in cycling in the resource centre?
