Hi people keep on saying that the one inch per gallon is better than the one inch per litre I'am really comfused can any one help

its 4.5 (roughly) litres to the gallon,

the "rule" is one inch of fish per gallon. this increases with the size of the fish, so a discus or an angel may be 4" long but also has alot more mass due to its height, so you should alow it maybe 3 gallons per inch.

it also depends on your set up, if you over filter and have an air stone pumping lots of oxygen into the tank, and have a large thank so the volume of water will buffer the water chemisty then you can get away with over stocking a little

Personally I choose to understock as it reduces the chances of water quality problems. The general rule quoted is to allow 1 US gallon of water per 1 inch of adult fish. Obviously this doesnt mean you can have one 10 inch fish in a 10 US gallon tank and some 1" fish dont poop or pee a whole lot so you can have a few more than 10 of them in a 10US gallon tank. The rule is flexible to a certain extent.

Most of the time it works thou, you just have to make sure to research your fish well.
