Hello,

2 weeks ago we got a plec, black with white spots, max length 6 inches.

was like a peppermint plec, but aparently its not.

Last few days he is sometimes green with yellow spots?

all our other fish are fine (3 angels, 7 platies & 3 clown loaches).

Nitrate is 0
amonia is 0
ph7
nitrate 40 mg/l

Is this normall? he is still moving around, active etc.

Cheers

my bristlenose pleco sometimes changes colour. sometimes he is black with white spots, sometimes he is plain dark brown and sometimes he goes very light brown. i think they just change colour to camoflage so i dont think it would be anything to worry about.

if you notice more and more little white spots i would treat for whitespot, but yeh i think it's common for them to change colour

As far as i am aware the plecs go lighter in colour when they are unhappy and dark when they are happy.

A question or two to ask yourself is are the other inmates stressing your plec or is he underfed or is there not enought air filteration?

Hi there,

Both of my bristlenoses change colour as they move to different areas of my tank. I have a peppermint pleco and when I bought him, the pet store that he looked exactly like an Inspector pleco. He was about $5 more, so I took the peppermint. I have also never heard of an Inspector pleco. Picture of the little guy would help.
