Hi my mate has put half a bottle of methylene blue into tank its so much you can hardly see the fish is this dangerous ?? I tried telling him but he said it fine am i right ??

I'm not sure how much harm he is causing him but I wouldn't think something like that is safe for fish (I may be wrong), whether it is safe or not, I wouldn't want it in my tanks.

It is used to treat certain bacterial infections & to stop eggs from fungusing, but it will kill plants & the good bacteria in his filter if he's used too much

Thanks it does look alot but he wont listen to me so see how it goes

You can dose highly on Methylene Blue, almost to the point of turning your water black, but yes it's a harsh treatment that will kill plants and filter media and stains everything in the tank except the fish. This included silicone, ornaments, filter, heater and such.

I have only used it once. People use it for treating eggs I know, but I only used it as a bath, meaning I removed the fish from the tank, placed them in a solution, then returned them to the tank.. That avoids damaging beneficial bacteria

Yep around his now most his fish are sadly no more and he draining half it out maybe next time he will learn .. i try to avoid this product last time i used it i got more on my clothes than in the tank ... thanks for advice

It stains too! It's not really as useful as other treatments.. many ailments are down to water quality and time to cure.. what was the initial issue?

Idk think he brought two yo yo loaches and they died along with some smaller fish and he thought the loaches were ill told him to take them back to the shop and they could tell him what they died from vut he just flushed them :(

that stuff is used in some toilet cleaners. you know that weird blue solution or pellet that you put in the tank of the toilet.. then the water turns blue. that's the stuff. in small doses to fish it'll be find, but in the toilet range it is very concentrated and he used a lot and boom no more fish.
i find that if the things i put in the tank that will make me sick etc then i wont give it to the fish. unless meds to treat something... know what i mean :p bad for me.. then bad for fish.

You can actually very highly dose on Methylene Blue without harming the fish so I doubt it was that unless he had poured a full bottle in

Darksoul996 has done it before. He works in an aquatics store and has for 8 years now and he's very highly dosed on Methylene Blue before and not harmed the fish. He says almost to the point of the water being black from the medication.

Methylene blue is added to betta cups in pet stores in an attempt to help prevent infections.. I do not think that it is usually lethal.

Well all his fish died all his snails shrimps loaches plecs plants and gawd knows what else gone too so if it werent the met blue then his messed up somewhere very costly lesson

Many such treatments reduce the oxygen levels in a tank. Check the label and see if it says to increase the flow during treatment. If so, then that's likely the cause of death. Sorry to hear it.

By the way...who is "he"?

yea that is what most people use for eggs from corys or other fish that lay eggs so that the eggs wont grow any fungus.
