I've had betta fish for lots of years without too many problems. I've seen most the common diseases but this is new to me. At first I thought I was just feeding him too much and he was getting fat (I have that problem with a lot of my animals) but I have put him on a diet and it seems to be something more. He actually looks like he's getting worse.

He's in a bowl with a live plant, I change the water as often as I can.

Here he is. Can anyone help me?

I feed all my plants Betta Bio-Gold from Hikari, it's the best I have been able to find.

I have had the plant since forever, I got it with a fish a long time ago and even though a fish or two underneath it have died, the thing keeps on going. I have no idea what it's called, but they're commonly sold with the fish. A lot of times sellers say the fish will eat the plant and not need food, but I know better and my fish have done well for it. The one who came with it lived for three years in my care, I have no idea how old he was at the time. I was still fairly young. I hope this helps, I'm sorry that I don't know the kind.

The plant is probly white ribbon or lucky bamboo. Does the fish have trouble staying upright? I would remove anything on the bottom of tank along with the plant and check to see if he has a bowl movment.

I would read that constipation link first to rule it out.

I am trying the pea trick right now, and I have taken him out of his usual bowl into something only a little smaller, but bare, so I can watch him.

He is having no problems swimming (which is why I was not worried until he got worse) and he's loving the pea.

Thanks for everyone's advice. And I'll check up on the plant, I don't want to poison him.
