Is He Getting Territorial?

When i turned the light on this morning my betta started going mental and chasing my mollies around, they looked really distressed. He was kinda flaring his gills by his head (dunno if they have a technical name), i turned the light off cos i was worried about my mollies and then put it back on again about half an hour later, and he did the same thing! My bf says its breeding season, is that right??? I thought fish bred all year round...?

theres no breeding season for bettas, other fish yes, not bettas. your betta is showing aggresion cause thats what siamese fighing fish do. sometimes bettas will get along with mollies/guppys and other small fish, but it usually turns out bad. you might want to think about getting a tank just for the betta. They do not do good with other colorful fish.
