I've recently set up my tank, and i have had my fighter for just over 2 weeks.

He is very lively, especially at night, although sometimes he does lie on the bottom of the tank during the say. Each time i see this i worry he has died, or that he can't breath or something (i'm stupid, i know, i am just very fond of him). He has a few curls on his tail, which i think means he might have once had finrot. Apart from that i think he's a gorgeous looking fish.

Any opinions?

aww hes lovely.. reminds me of my old crowntail... looks almost exactly the same..

the curls are usualy caused by poor water quality, but if he had them when you got him then as long a you keep him in good water conditions, it will eventualy sort itsself out

thanks...he did have em when i got him...it doesn't worry me too much...hes got perfect warter quality atm...
ammonia - 0
nitrate & nitrite - 0
and pH -7.5

hopefully sort itself...cheers

oh yeah, btw...is the laying on the floor thing something to worry about...

He's probably just resting, so long as he's not going onto his side or anything like that.

He looks like a healthy boy though :)

My betta does the same thing. He sits at the bottom of the tank 4 5 or more minutes at a time. he's breathing fine and has been acting like this since i bought him. Sometimes he leans over on his side and then gets back up. Could it also be the water current is a bit to fast so when hes resting it pushes him over. cause wen he lays parallel to the current hes fine. He seems happy and he eats fine. It worries me though.

Them tail tire them out swimming about all the time...
all my longer tailed bettas rest more than my shorter tailed ones...
he looks healthy and chunky....
tail and fins seem in great condition...
and he seems healthy all you say sounds great :) keep doing what your doing and youll have a long lived fish!

You wanna talk about something that would scare you heh...
My betta Raj goes into the little rock cave thing to rest at night, and I swear to god he is the heaviest sleeping fish ever next to the bolivian ram in our other tank.
I could mess with the entire tank, moving things around, make a ton of noise and he does not move at all. It scared me to death when this happened before. I thought he was sick and I started to panic, so I kinda nudged him with my finger and he swam away totally fine :p

As long as he's not pale or breathing heavily when he does it, don't worry about it. He's just chillin'.

nope. hes the same. breathin just as before. nothing new.
i was worried though.
but now that i kno i wont worry so much unless i see other signs.
