hi, i had no i diea were to post this but, is fishes a word? i always thought fish was the plurl of fish, like how deer is the purl of deer, but my little brother as watching wild kratts a kris kept saying fishes, im confuzled /:

Technically no, fish is plural. But language reflects usage so, if we say it, it's a word! It's in the dictionary and is useful when referring to more than one species of fish. People on here also say fishies

“Fishes” is the plural noun of “fish”.

'Fishes' might be used when talking about multiple fish of different species.

Fish is for one species of fish.
Fishes is for multiple species of fish.

Fish tanks containing tetras, barbs, gouramis and catfish have a number of fishes in them. However, a tank containing only neon tetras has a species of fish in it.

Scientifically and in the hobby, @Colin_T is right on the mark. I do not know when "fishes" was accepted as the plural for more than one species, but in my schooling (back in the 1950's and early 1960's) "fish" was singular and plural period, though this is certainly not the standard now. Axelrod's book Exotic Tropical Fishes first appeared in 1962, Jacobs' Livebearing Aquarium Fishes appeared in the English translation edition in 1971, both TFH publications, so maybe in typical fashion Axelrod (who owned TFH) just did it and started the trend--wouldn't surprise me, he had his own methods. But the scientific community uses fishes for multiple species.

that IS a weird question.... i am 13,lol. althogh LA is my faviret supject, i have really bad grammar and am bad at spelling things. like, i always forgetto say somthing like "may i get this fish plant" insted of "can i get this fish plant" so i might sound like an 8 year old sometimes lol.
