Apparently this morning my 4 year old daughter ate a pinch of tetra betta flakes  I didn't see her, but her big brother told me, and she didn't deny it

Well, she didn't seem to suffer any ill effects (she ate 2 weetabix straight afterwards) so I sent her to school as usual. But do you think that flakes are poisonous to humans? It can only have been a tiny amount, but should I take her to the doctor?

I think she is now banned from feeding her betta

doubt it'll do her any harm at all tbh, generally flake is made up of fish and algae. it may not be very nice but i doubt it'll do her any harm. However I'm not a doctor so couldn't say for sure.

obviously if she gets an upset tummy or complains of feeling un well then get her to the docs and take the fish food with you.

Heh. I actually was curious and tasted a generous pinch once. It has the taste of fish flavoured host (you know, like in church). This was a few years back, and I aint dead yet eheheh :hyper:

there is actually a thread on here about just that. a number of people on this forum have tasted fish food and in an almost unanimous(sp?) decision decided that it's harmless but foul tasting :good:

Tbh Fish food isnt toxic to humans in slightest (well in small quantites I dont know about having the whole container).
When I was very young and my cousin dared me to taste a flake like your daughter i was curious and I was absolutly fine- I Just remember to foul taste

Well it hasn't harmed my cat he loves it, I think its mainly fish and plant matter.

 A drunken mate of mine once ate some flakes and Goldfish Pelletts- as the Takeaway was shut! (He's also tried Dog food whilst sober a few years ago, and he's still reasonably O.k)

The youth of today!

>A small amount should not be harmful, but I wouldn't add it to Cereal every morning.....Keep it in a high cupboard maybe!!

Nope...not poisonous...doubt it could go on sale if it was due to that very reason!
People at my work have tried pond pellets, algae wafers....live daphnia and all sorts...freaks!!! :alien:
