my poor betta is so sick... about 5 days ago he started developing a lump between his eyes, and the size has been steadily increasing. it's now about 1/3 of a centimeter. i've no idea what it is.

yesterday, one of his eyes popped out. i read that if it's just one eye that pops, it's probably due to injury or trauma, and isnt pop-eye. is this correct?

and now today, that side of his face is all swollen, he's very lethargic, and he cant eat. he's been lethargic since last night, and then he didnt want to eat... but today he tried, and he cant seem to get any food into his mouth. i tried every fishy food i have, and none of them, no matter how small, will get into his mouth.

and just now i've noticed that the scales on the bump, and on the side of his face with the pop-eye, are starting to stand up.

i think i have to euthanize him, but i really dont want to. but i also dont want him to suffer. i'm so upset...

can anyone tell me if there's anything else i can do?

:-( please help me out...

Hi, Sorry I just noticed this after I posted a reply to your previous question. I was under the impression that pop-eye could happen to just one eye as well - I'm not sure but I've read that benign tumours can contain bacteria or at least can be infected, maybe this is why he has developed the pop-eye as well. According to the web-sites that I posted in your other query, both pop-eye and infected benign tumours can be treated with antibiotics (lump might not go away but the infection will), they suggest first trying penicillin, then maybe erythromycin.

he'd already been on ethromycin for the last week. it was too late for him... the tumor was cancerous. i had to euthanize him.

i miss him already.
