Hi all,

Finally got a different stand and I'm definitely going with an external around Christmas time. I was originally wanting an Eheim 2075 because I was under the impression that they had two intakes + spray bar so I liked the circulation I'd be getting, but I just found that apparently only the 2080 has two intakes.

That said, I was leaning towards an FX5. Do you think that is overkill? I have a small circulation pump on one end of my tank now, but I want to be DONE with HOB filters. They are nice, but they have to be cleaned so frequently so I'd prefer to get something that is a bit more hands off. What do you think? PS tank is moderately planted, wouldn't quite call it heavy, and fish load will be average and MAYBE eventually pushing it, but all small tropicals, no big waste producers.

Overkill is an understatement mate i reckon! If you're looking for Fluvals then the 205 or 305 would be plenty, a nice even flow too rather than what i could only describe as a washing machine with an FX5.

If we're talking 75g then that would be fine. :good:

you cant over filter and if your aiming for a x5 turn over the 305/405 wont do it with media in, i would have gone FX5 if the dam dustbin would fit under the tank instead i went with 2 Tetratec 1200's in my 75G and find that i get decent flow with no noise. Search google for FX5 mod page shows you make a spray bar for it :good:

Definitely not overkill. I have two 405s on my 75 because I already had them. I would definitely go with the FX5 if starting from scratch.
