My father-in-law got a 60l tank from P@H for Christmas and he is already thinking about getting a replacement filter for it. I just bought myself a Roma 240 which comes with a Fluval 305 but I bought a Tetra 1200 to replace it. As a result I have a filter I don't need and was looking to sell anyway. I figure just the filter capacity even turned down should be orders of magnitude better than the cheapo one that comes strapped to the back of the P@H tank.

For those thinking "keep the Fluval in case you need it", excellent thought, but I'm buying a second Tetratec 1200 in a few weeks, probably around the same time as the tank is cycled. Two filters of the same type and media size will make life easier for me :)

LOL!!! Washing machine springs to mind. You can turn them down on the level to just under half withoutharming the motor. You could also add loads of filter wool/floss to slow the flow even more.

I find my 305 is great, even when full of muck and jam packed solid with media. Just so noisy!

I have a 405 and used to have a 305 on another tank. I clean the impellor quite frequently and always vaseline the seals. I have a) never had an issue with them and b) never thought that they were noisy filters. The flow rate on my 405 is apparantly 1300lph, but in reality it seems much higher than that of my Aqua One 1250 which is rated at 1250lph.

Oh and I think that the amount of media that the Fluvals can hold is great :good:

Thats because Aqua One externals are uselss. lol. Care to test the actual flow rate?

The noise is nothing to do with seals, it's the impellor.
