Is £24 A Lot For A Super Delta?

I've seen some "show quality" bettas fetch high prices, but I agree with others in the respect that I wouldn't trust a LFS to carry that level of stock.

i put a serch in for betta. There is only one on there at the mo and i would stay away from that one, but check it out every now and then there are some good ones. Otherwise K G Bettas is getting in some imports that he will be selling on the 17th some reall sexy lookin lil fishies. :good:

Right I couldn't get a pic as it was hiding, but it was a show quality half moon apparently :/ even so, their CT and SD were £14.95 and even a VT at £9.95 because it had more than 1 colour in it :/ so lots of this :/ basically

Even from UK breeders they arent that expensive. You are getting done!

Which LFS do you use MermaidMel?

it's Amwell Aquatics in Epping, they are great guys in there and have the healthiest ever fish ever that last for centuries but for once, they disappoint me in trying to knock their customers with betta prices (well worse prices lol)

i don't think that's a huge amount if you're looking at a show/breeding quality fish. I can't see the fish, but there are usually plenty of fish on aquabid that are around this price, plus you're paying shipping on top. Did you ask where the betta came from?

Personally I can't say I think that a pet shop pricing their bettas high is that bad. It shows an unwillingness to just sell the fish to the first moron that walks in the door. They must expect that people will only buy such an expensive betta if they're really interested in a quality animal, considering they could just as easily go to walmar or petsmart/co and buy an iffy fish for 3 or 4 dollars.

of course... it's not a very good way to make money...

[edit] let's look at it this way, prices at this store are a little higher, but they sell healthy fish, so you would have to expect (and should support) that. a halfmoon is naturally going to be more costly than a VT because it's a more exotic, and harder to achieve tail type (you can breed two HMs and get almost all SD). on top of that, this fish was probably sold to the store by a breeder rather than a "betta mill", so you're covering the cost of the original fish, and very likely the shipping on the fish as well. Finally, the store wouldn't last if it couldn't make some kind of profit off its product, so, not so surprising a price, to me.

Ohhhh stop it you might tempt me!

What starrynight has said makes sense, yeah.
If it looked healthy, flared at a mirror/other betta almost straight away and had a definite HM finnage I'd probably pay it, especially if it was reaaaaally pretty.

But I think I would do some questioning first, who it came from, where it came from etc.
