My boys are doing fine now.. but is 27 degrees (outside temp) to cold??

I accidently left my window open last night  and woke up to non moving betta's
they are usually pretty active.. esp julian, but their both ok now.

Dhani, however i'm kinda worried about.. he keeps on going up for air.. however he looks fine

Advice? Thoughts?

I would say thats F, cause 27C is quite warm...

27 C = 80.6 F
27 F = -2.8 C
(If the temp converter I'm using is working right...)

If you are talking F here, yes thats quite cold, but I guess your tank has a heater so your fish probably didn't notice it a bit. Then again, you are talking about your fish being very inactive so I guess you don't have heating in your tank.

2.8C would be enough for any human being in the room to succumb to hypothermia. That is very near freezing point. I often sleep with my windows open in winter and I have never known the temperature to go much below 15C. So I reckon it's got to be 27C. Which is quite warm in tropical terms. Or if the fish are showing signs of stress, then maybe there is something wrong with the thermometre.

now, i've never been to minnesota, but i'm pretty sure it isn't generally 80F there in october. i WOULD believe if it went down to almost freezing at night though, because it's snowing 45 minutes away from where i'm at and minnesota is north of me.

also, most folks in the states use farenheit :)

that's pretty devastating for a tropical fish, and especially ones in (probably) small tanks. If they are still alive, it's a good sign. There isn't a whole lot that i can think of that you can do beyond warming up the tanks but you don't want anything to be too quick. I imagine you've closed the window meaning that the room is warming back up, and that the tanks, too are warming back up. I personally would let the tanks warm up to room temperature first and leave it like that for a day or so, then you should go out and buy some heaters for small tanks (they sell them for as small as 2.5-5 gallon tanks). Make sure you buy the heaters with thermostats. They're a little more expensive but you won't have to worry about forgetting to unplug (and boiling the fish), or forgetting to plug back in (and again freezing your fish).

good luck!

Yes.. I do mean 27 Degrees F.

They are totally fine and totally alive and back to being perky :)
I just basically closed the windows, turned the heater (apt heater) to 80
and did a water change.. I know I could have shocked them to death with the temp.
But I made sure the water wasn't too hot or to cold. I also kept my eye on them.

Their doing well! :good:
