i had never heard of an "ipond" so i tried doing a yahoo search. found very few, very short references to it. none of which gave accurate sizes, volume or full descriptions or showed pictures. :/ for example
Gadget two: iPond
"This is a very cool Ipod accessory for the desk at home or in the office," according to Mr Brown. "The iPond Hi Fi Fish Tank and Audio Speaker can plug into your MP3 player with the dual plug cable and listen to all your favourite music."
"It is available at Pets Paradise and Pet Goods Direct and is retailing for around $69.99."
but i did find this quote on an Australian fish forum (from what i can tell they are only available in Australia at present.)
Ok so correct me if I'm wrong here... But I was at my local fish shop (is that what you guys abbreviate to LFS?) and they have this thing called an iPond. Its an iPod shaped betta tank which could fit maybe 500mL of water max. Thats pretty cruel in itself but the other thing is it is called an 'iPond' because in the bottom of the tank is a speaker which you can attach to your iPod (hence the name). Seeing as bettas don't really like much water movement wouldn't that just add to the stress of being confined to a tank just barely big enough for them to turn around in?
So based on that my answer would be NO its not any good! a betta needs a reasonable amount of water to be able to swim around in. this sounds an adequate size for holding a betta in while performing 100% water changes on his tank maybe, but NOT under any circumstances for long periods of time. and the thought of bombarding your poor fish with loud music THROUGH his tank! :-( the vibrations would be sure to stress him out no end! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not buy that so called tank. if you want a betta keep him in a suitable tank and buy a set of speakers separately. :good:

of course this opinion is based on hearsay only as i have been unable to find any pictures etc, so if somebody can provide evidence that counteracts this info then please provide it.

Nope, that's one very cruel product!! :(
Vibrations (from the music) can kill the fish.
Plus, it's a very small bowl.
I'd stick to tanks/1-2gl bowls.

Yeah I saw a picture of one in a magazine advertising it as a trendy new gadget and I couldn't believe my eyes.

The sound like a right pain in the butt.. i bet the iFish only work with iPonds, and don't work with anyone elses technology, but they look pretty cool.

I may have gone slight off at a tangent here...

hmm im gona leave that product alone (ibettas not buy an ipond  ) apart from that what is the australian fish forum called?

It's not actually an Apple product either and may, infact, be in violation of some sort of law because of this.

Would be interestin if anyone could find a pic of one.
This is NOT my picture. This was posted on another forum. The person who posted this picture took the pic at their local Walmart. Yes, that's a betta in the display ipond.

My opinion is they are cruel torture chambers for bettas.

Yep :( It seems to be designed specifically to torture fish.

It's really disgusting how people can get away with selling this kind of stuff. If I tried selling a box for a cat that it can just about stand up and turn around in and then added motors so that the box is constantly shaking I would get done for animal cruelty.

You know, I had heard about these and had no idea what they were. Well, now I know, and I can't believe it! That is waaay too small for a betta! I hope that the people get in trouble for calling it an "iPond" as it makes it sounds like Apple is manufacturing it, when they're not. I'm willing to bet they have a patent on the "i." If you own a Mac, then you know about the iLife software as well, everything starts with an "i." LOL I just don't think Apple would NOT patent something like that. They are Apple.

Just my 2 cents, and just hoping these people get in trouble! Cruel, cruel, cruel!

I saw this at Walmart today, and even I knew right off that it had to be cruel to the fish (and I'd only seen the subject title of this thread, I hadn't read it yet, lol). It's mostly the music vibrations that I figure are the cruelest, the size of the "tank" coming up a close second.
