Hey everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, one of my honeys died after a year (female). The male never made a succesful bubble nest for them to breed, and then once she died, he went crazy! Almost the whole tank ws covered in bubble nests!...lol. My question is... if i buy a juvy female honey and introduce her into the tank, will they breed, will she just be a new tank mate, or is that a big no no? I need your help!

Thanks!
Trevo

They might breed, they might not. It depends on a variety of things, like tankmates, water params, what the tank is like...etc.

However, it should be fine if you add the female. It's not a no-no. If the male seems to get aggressive when you first add her in, you can try re-arranging the tank, to diminish his territories so he isn't quite so aggressive.

Hi Trevo,
I only have one male and one female (neon dwarfs) and never had any problem in getting them to breed. I put the female in the one tank and the male next to it so they could see one another and when the male started building the nest I introduced the female. He immediately chased her around the tank, in between building the nest. I had provided a couple of 'safe places ' for her to hide which is a good thing to do. Otherwise get two females and then there is some relief for them and more chance that you will get some breeding done.
Good luck
Davejey :)
