Hi all,

I am knew to fishforums and keeping tropical fish. I have a fishbox tank and it came with a interpet internal power filter, the instruction manual says its for models 2/3/4. When I first put it on and for about 1 week the venturi flow was really fast and very very bubbly, not overly noisey (as I have read some are noisey which means inefficiency) however it is now very slow and you are lucky if 1 bubble appears from it every now and again. The tank is in its 4th week. I have taken the filter out 3 times and cleaned it thinking due to new gravel and plants it may be blocking up but this hasn't worked. The venturi flow is more about making the tank look good so I am not too worried it is not working but I am worried that the filter is no longer working. How do you know if it is? Sorry if this is such an amature question but I am worried as 1 fish died yesterday, worried it is due to the filter? There seems to be some sort of a current in the tank but compared to what the venturi was blowing in the first week it doesn't compare.

Sorry for such a long message

Hey Jess,

I'm pretty new to all this too and setup my first tank yesterday with an Interpet Power FIlter 3.

You may have already done this, in which case ignore me, but the blue switch for the venturi flow shouldn't be submergrged in water. iE - the waterline should be between the minimum water line on the side, but below the venturi switch.

Hope that help and apologies if yours is already setup like that!

Hi,
Which switch do you mean? On my filter there is the one on th top which is basically on off for venturi air flow or one underneath the nozzel which is + and - (how much flow) the switch on the top is abover the water level, the filter is in the water no further than the spout which blows the bubbles...
Thanks

I meant the one on the top to control the venturi which you're saying you have above the waterline - in which case you can ignore me! :)

Hi in my experience these filters are utterly useless, their flow cuts out and totally blocks their impeller and in one case with mine it snapped! Where as the other filter in the tank was totally fine. I would swap to a more substantial make like Fluval or Ehiem and move all your media from this Interpet filter into the new one.
