International Guppies

I don't have access to a local fish club and can not travel the 3 to 4 hours it takes to get to an area with a good club. I am thinking about buying some good guppies online. I want some really good guppies not the regular mixed breed pet shop varieties (not that there is anything wrong with them). Its kind of like buying a purebred dog I want specific qualities. On the auction sites I have checked out the majority of the breeders seem to be from southeast asia and ship to the US. Do you think it would be safe to buy them this way? I would think there might be some complications with overseas shipping.

I'm not sure about how all that works but I was told by a good friend that you have to buy more than you really want because you have to figure some will probably die during transport. I would look into the companies shipping policys and even try to contact a company from there and see how they would ship it.
