I have the 'Old Chinese Garden' as my desktop background (sad I know!), and I'm sure it'll be there for a while, well until I have some decent pics of my own tanks! So yeh for a while!

How do you vote? Am I missing something on the page? I love your 180 Jimbooo, that's got my vote if I can vote.

This is the tank that does it for me, (very ADA i know) lol couldn't be further in style from my tanks.
I just find it very serene

i'm not taking exception to your choice or the quality of the tank...but the backgrounds don't do it for me. the white makes it seem a bit too "hill toppy" . it a novel idea but it's not something i like.

i know that wasn't the idea of this thread but any thoughts have to be positive eh?

edit: there's more white backgrounds! argh! anyone else have these thoughts or am i strange? :p

I think the white backgrounds create the illusion of terra firma. These tanks look almost like a rolling hill in England or somewhere rather than an underwater environment. It actually recalls to my mind dreams where the fish are actually floating in the air, if anybody else have had those types of dreams. IMO, they are a little disorienting to me and I prefer the traditional backgrounds, though I can see why many like them.

I got to vote. I made a mistake and wasn't able to vote ealier because my registration wasn't confirmed yet. My goof.

Yeah Jimbooo, your 180 has always been my favorite tank and got my vote. There was, however, a non-CO2 one that I thought was rather clever.

Carnival at the Village Road

Or something like that. I thought it looked like a cute little garden and I liked the swordtails color. A very cheerful tank that made me smile, like Jimbooos' does.

Many of them were lovely, others were not so well though out. I wish we could see the judges' comments on the beginner ones, that would be helpful.

There's been a lot of feedback on the poor quality of the APC contest site, I understand they may be changing it a little. They could certainly learn from the AGA showcase.

The AGA contest also runs the public popular vote catergory after the panel of judges have .

<I like Tom's ADA democracy> I don't understand?

Well for my money I prefer white backgrounds, or better, no backing on the tank at all just clear glass. I guess this isn't always possible if you have wallpaper or strongly coloured walls, but for me I prefer a tank with no backing at all. My house has quite light off white coloured walls throughout so it's fine for me.

I'm coming around to this way of thinking.

It's like literally seeing a volume of water and its contents floating in space, no visible sealant, virtually invisible equipment (glass filter gear, diffuser etc.), overtank lighting. In other words absolutely no distraction from the plants and fish, just pure nature.

My tank is almost the opposite of this with black everywhere, although the effect acheives a similar concept - no distractions.
