I have recently bought two new external filters, a Tetratec ex 600 and a ex 700 to replace the Fluval internal filters in two of my tanks. Can i set these up straight away using the media from the two internals that they will replace ?
And if so, The externals have three and four media baskets respectively and are crammed with media so i would need to take/cut some sponge out to get mine in, Should i put the two mature sponges from each internal in to one basket in each of the externals or put them into different level baskets to help spread the good bacteria, or doesn't it matter, thanks, Alan

Im no expert but id say mature media would be the best thing to do and it probably doesnt matter where you put the mature media as long as it goes in.
Like i said im no expert :shout:

No doubt you've probably already positioned your mature sponges by now but just mention, the tweak here is to determine the flow direction (usually bottom to top in external cannisters) and position the mature media just before the media which you expect to be among your best biomedia (able to harbor the most bacteria.) But its a fine point, not nearly as essential as simply the fact of having mature media -in- the filter.
