I've posted this in the Livebearer forum, but was directed here, so I hope the double post is not a problem.

I've recently noticed virtually all of the fish in my tank (3 mollies, 4 platies) dropping stringy white poo, but otherwise acting normally. To err on the side of caution, I've been treating them with Jungle's medicated anti-parasite food, as it was the only option for treating internal parasites in my LFS.

Am I using the correct medication? Is there anything else that can cause stringy white poo? I feed them tropical crisps, freeze-dried bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp and bloodworms, and the occasional cucumber. They still have a healthy appetite, and have not seemed to have lost any weight.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer!

Well stringy white poo can be constipation, internal bacteria infection, to internal parasites.
Check the anus of the fish to see if its enlarged or red and inflamed.
Try some shelled peas on the fish first to see if it flushes them through.
Boil peas for a few minues, let cool down, pop out of shell, and mush between fingers and add to the tank.
Just want to ask do the fish look bloated and can they maintain there balance in the water.

Yikes, sorry I never got back to you...didn't realize anyone replied until just now. No inflamation that I can see, and no bloating or balance problems. After a couple of weeks of the medicated food, their poo has been looking healthy, so the problem either went away on its own or got chased out by the medication. I'm going to complete the 4 weeks (fed 3 days out of the week) of medicated food as directed on the bottle, and if there are still problems I'll try peas. Thanks for the reply. :)

Ok, good luck.
