Wouldn't it be better to get each ram in a pair from different stores? What keeps you from knowing that their not say brother and sister?

- reason being I am going to get a pair for my 20g which isn't set up yet and I ahve a 10g right now and a male ram (I think) that looks perfect, but young and I want to maybe add him to my 10g for a few weeks until I clone tanks.

thanks for the help

Most farmed tropical fish are interbred a lot, unless you are purchasing special "Wild Caught" fish. Its the interbreeding that has caused such fish to be less hardy and have shorter lifespans, along with stunted growth seen in some fish.

You will probably find that a lot of your LFS in the local area around you use the same breeders, or import from the same fish farmers abroad, you will never be able to avoid it in my opinion :(
