Would they be ok being on the same side of the tank I d o have a power head that I can move to the opposite so build up don't get bad on that side?

Then the intake piping is long enough to reach the bottom of my tank (under gravel) I assume i don't put it right there so should I take some of the piping o fro make it not on the floor?

And lastly dirtiness entrance what is this lol only used internal filters before and this seems to sit near the top of the water line

dirtiness entrance. i think you mean a surface skimmer, they arent really needed for freshwater, mainly for saltwater. yes you can have them on the same side if you like. remeber if you are gunna cut the hoses to length for the same side you wont be able to change your mind afterwards. most people have the intake and outtake on different sides with the output making a current towards the intake, but if you have a powerhead then you can do what you want lol. are we talking about a asp/sunsun filter?

Does that mean I can just use the. Stopper on the surface skimmer instead of using it then.

Well the hose don't reach the other side of the tank where I have it in my cupboard but. I wasn't planing on cutting. The hose just taking some of. The plastic piping of to shorten it.

And sorry don't know what you mean by asp/sunsun
Unless asp means allpondsolution then yes

sorry i meant aps, all pond solutions indeed. i didnt get a stopper with mine. i just didnt use the skimmer full stop. you want the out take pipe to be as short as possible in order to increase the power of flow but it can be a good thing if you find having a full hose while running the filter is perfect flow. i have uploaded some photos to show you how i have my intake on my 1400ef aps external filter, hope it help.

i could cut the hose down abit but i think ill check what the flow is like first the piping etc is all done but the fish tank is empty of anything water gravel etc which i will be doing the next couple of days.

mine is also the 1400ef aps filter

there excellent at doing there job but ive had noise problems with mine, sounds like a fan. the loudest external filter i have heard by far. most of them are silent and by silent i mean silent. this filter wont fit under my cabinet but if it did and the tank was anywhere apart from my bedroom it would be perfect. let me know how you get on with the filter :)

mine didnt fit either but mine isnt one made for the fish tank so i just cut the bottom out lol

ah didn't have that problem as i could fit another 2 beside the one i have if i cut the bottom of.

question about the spray bar do you use it? want to know how much it changes the flow as only other time i used a spray bar it was rubbish and stopped the water more than spreading it

no i dont use the spray bar it reduces flow. its fine for smaller tanks though. theres no rules. whatever suits your aquarium needs the most :)

There was a guy on Youtube who worked for some tourist aquatic place, he said don't have the intake and the outtake close together because you will only be filtering a small amount of water, you need them afar apart.
So when it goes in it circulates then it goes out, having them close together you will be filtering more or less the same water that just went in.

the filter will still be moving water away from the out pipe then i will have a powerhead on the oposite side pushing water towards the out pipe

set it up this afternoon wow the filter was a pain had a puddle in my living room but nvm its all done, gravel could have been cleaned more but ill do water changes to sort out the cloudiness powerhead isnt exactly on the opposite side to the filter (why are plug wires never long enough).

1 thing that i was supprised by the filter does not have alot of flow to it maybe its just im used to a small tank with quite a large filter so i noticed it more the powerhead certainly creates alot more flow
