I just bought some silver hatchets today, and I have some questions on their diet..................... first off, will they eat any insect i drop in the tank? If not, what other insects (besides fruit flies, mosquitoes, and baby crickets) will they like? and finally if i go out and get any random fruit fly and mosquitoe and drop it in the tank will it be safe for them to eat?

I culture Drosophila melanogaster (fruitflies) in jam-jars covered with muslin cloth and an elastic band. Kept at around 20 degrees C. They are exceptional food for small surface loving fish. There are many different culture mediums in which to feed and grow fruit-fly. When you want to feed pop the jar in the fridge to slow them down and then quickly tip some adult flies into the tank & recover the top. I feed these alot to my killifish.
Hope this was of some help to you
