I just got a 5gallon from my sister. She is back from college and doesn't want it. It is not cracked, and to my astonishment, the filter, heater, and air pump work (sweet). Perfect hospital tank

My dilemma is the inside of the glass. She didn't take good care of the tank and let the water get too low way too often and now there is a white crust of calcium and minerals taking up half of the tanks glass.

I know this stuff will come off, but what do I use? I've never really had to worry about this before as I just do water changes when my water dips below the lip of the tank. I don't want to scrub or scower and risk hazing or scratching the glass

What to do?

the best way is a razor blade and elbow grease

remember if you do use any kind of acid (cirtic or aecitic) rinse rinse and rinse untill you are satisfied that there are no more traces left.

I may be too late but if your razor blade has a nick in it it will scratch your glass. I used baking soda and vinegar and scrubbed it off with a paper towel. That way there is no risk of scratches. But it works. I just did it last week.

Razor blade, Salt, Vinegar, and Lemon Juice - just dont cut yourself with the blade, then get salt, lemon juice, and vinegar in the cut - OUCH!!!
