i was thinking about getting an african cichlid and i was wondering if u can give me info about them and care and such plus tips on taking care of them

ok thanks for telling me....i was planing to get only one cichilid(the one im trying to find out what it is....if i can find one again....in the "unknow cichild" topic) would a 5 gal be good enough for only one as my lfs told me that the asorted cichilid tank that this cichilid was in get to around 6"

nonononononono. you can't do that. inch per gallon does not apply to fish over 5 inches! your 6" fish will need at least a 10g and possibly more.

agreed, africans would prefer a group and you won't fit any cichlid into a 5 gallon
