Info On More Tank Mates And Plants?

Hello All!

I have a fully cycled 18.7gallon aqua one aquarium( 24 inch long x 12 wide x 15 high) with an air pump, 100 watt heater and a Hagen Fluval U2 filter.

I would like to stock my tank with the following:

1x Zebra Danio
1x Leopard Danio
3x GloFish
2x Cories << they're already in my tank, so I have no choice with them, however I would of definately of chosen to keep them anyroad.
5x Cherry Barbs

Would you say this tank is suitable and decent?

I would like to get some nice live plants. Any advice would be nice I'm not much of an expert when it comes to plants!,

zebra/leopard/glofish are all basically zebra danios, they're very active temperate fish that like the water a tad cooler, and they need a tank something of 2.5 feet long at least to allow them some room to move around, making them unsuitable for your tank size. They also prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more, and IME the schooling behavior of same species fish with a different color morph has always been rather fake in comparison to them being with their own species and color morph.

Get 4 more cories, they like to school as well. You'll get much better behavior out of them if you up their numbers.

the cherry barbs would be fine, but try for something of 8 or so instead of 5, the more the merrier. And 6 is a definite minimum for schooling species, rather than the 3 or 5 that some people say.

I'd try something like this:
8 cherry barbs
6 cory catfish
And one of the following selection as a "centerpiece":
2 bolivian rams (1 male 1 female)
3 apistogramma species (1 male 2 females)
3 honey gouramis (1 male 2 females)
3 licorice gouramis (1 male 2 females)
1 betta splendens

In regards to plants, some good low tech plants are anubias species, java ferns, and java moss. The anubias and java ferns all do best if you anchor them to rocks or driftwood, though.

Id say that you would need to up your numbers on the fish for about 1 to 2 more danios about 4 more coreys and the cherry barbs are fine




And about your plants make sure there fully aqautic plants if you plan on getting real ones

What kind of lighting do you have? Many plants require moderate or high levels of lighting and some do best with CO2. Plants that do well with low lighting are Anubias & Java Fern. Both of those are best tied to driftwood or rocks. Anubias are fairly expensive where I live. If you need a taller, fast growing plant I've had good luck with Wisteria.

I would defintely swap out the three Danio types (all variants of the same species) for something less active, those danios deserve a temperate (18-20C) 4-foot tank for their speedy little lives.

What species are the Corydoras? Some like Peppered and trilineatus are best kept at 15-20C most of the year, some like Pandas should be kept in the 20-22C ballpark, while others like sterbai need at least 24C. Unless you choose to rehome them, your future tankmates need to responsibly "fit" with these catfish.
