The last time i tried a RTBS with a Firemouth, i nearly lost the RTBS. Both fish were male sub-adult's and the shark tried to dominate the FM, the FM very quickly got fed up with this and attacked the RTBS constantly and i had to split them up.

I'm sure some people have had success with this but there would be a large element of risk.

Well that's too bad. Today at Petco I saw convicts and fire mouths in the same tanks. Would these be ok together. They seemed fine. :)

My rtbs is very tough though. He is really quite big. He probably could hold his own but I wouldnt want to take a chance.

Ok is this stocking ok?

1 convict
1 red tailed shark
1 rubber nose pleco or 1 bristle nosed pleco
6 tiger barbs
5 yoyo loaches

:D

I like the sound of it. Petco just got a new shipment of them too (convicts). It will look very nice. :) I have finally got a new and good tank for my big rtbs! I am happy! :D

I don't see that stock list lasting long..

I don't see red tail sharks, tiger barbs, or yoyo loaches standing up to a convict..

I've personally had rtbs and tiger barbs killed in a 55g tank with convicts in it.. and they weren't spawning.

Keeping convicts in small tanks with other fish is very hard to do.

What could I replace the convicts with? So the stocking would be...

6 tiger barbs
1 red tailed shark
5 yoyo loaches
1 rubber nose pleco
and some type of cichlid

Yeah that would be good. But would the red tailed shark be to aggressive towards it? It is quite aggressive. The only fish it isnt aggressive towards in my 29 gallon tank is my two yoyo loaches, clown pleco, and for some reason the danios. It probably would be ok. I am putting it in a new tank because of his aggressiveness. How bout a pair of rams? :)

I have found keyholes to be quite hardy... I've kept them with convicts in a 55g tank without problems.. they are strong enough to fend off other fish, but aren't really aggressive.

I don't know much about rams sorry.

Well that is good that they are hardy! So would this be ok?

1 red tailed shark
1 rubber nose pleco
5 yoyo loaches
6 tiger barbs
keyhole cichlids

How many keyhole cichlids do u suggest?

Maybe 2... but if they breed they will get aggressive.. so I don't know for sure.. I had a bunch together for years and they never bred, but you never know..

I could try to get two females. That would work. :)

I am guessing the tank is to aggressive for angel fish but I am going to ask anyway. Could I have a pair of angel fish instead??? :fun:

If it is possible I will take an angel fish out of the stocking list for my new 29 gallon and change it to a pair of rams. But if it isnt that is ok.

Angelfish and Tiger Barbs wouldn't work at all, forget about that. The Tigers would harass the Angels to death. But Tigers, Yo-Yo Loaches and a Convict would work well together I think. They have worked for me. :good:
