Im wondering if anyone can suggest a variety of floating plant that goldfish find inedible. I thought I had found it with the amazon frogbits. Whilst they cant eat the leaves, they do eat the roots which eventually leads to the plants dying. The tank is 120L and tends to hover around the 15-20oC mark.

Not sure what to try next as most floating plants seem for tropical set ups.

goldfish eat plants, fact, unfortunately its a case of either not having them or constantly replacing them,

You could try water lettuce because it grows so fast.. but unless you keep some in a bowl on the side for it to multiply in, it probably won't fare much better.

I tried duck weed first off because I was hoping that it would grow quicker than they would eat it. But no, it lasted a week and they had cleared it. I appreciate its part of their nature to eat plants but there must be something that they cant get their teeth through (yes, I know they dont have teeth before anyone says it). For example, the anubias at the bottom of the tank have lasted because the leaves are too thick for them to eat.

Similiary with the Frogbit, they cant handle the leaves but the roots are a weak spot that I hadnt considered.
