Hiya everybody,

I'm not really a newbie, i've had my tank for nearly 2 years now and have been registered on the forum for ages but have been lazy and never posted anything. Just been admiring tanks, fish and advise from a distance.

So i've made an effort and decided to introduce myself and my tank with my new camera i got off work for completing my engineering apprenticeship, best freebie i've ever had lol.

I have a 64L fish box which after the first day the interpet internal filter was instantly swapped for the fluval u2 internal filter. As the tank has a rediculous gap at the back of the lid, it's ability to contain any noise is useless, especially as the tank lives in my bedroom and the interpet filter was just so noisey. I also added a UV filter which has helped no end in my water quality.

Anyway this is my tank as it stands now:

and some good pictures i managed to get, i still don't know what i'm doing with my camera so good ones are pot luck lol

Hi Chris and welcome to TFF :hi:

Gorgeous pics, very clear and great colours :good:
I don`t want to appear to be peeing on your parade but the plants you have in your tank are actually non-aquatic plants that can affect the water quality badly :X

oh i'm not right up on plants, i left that to my local pet shop to get right lol. What do you mean by badly.
I've had them in for months now and no fishy friends have died.

Could you possibly suggest some good places to source aquatic plants and/or where to learn up on them, as i should really.

Cheers for the heads up

p.s. no offence taken on peeing on my parade lol

Stockwise there are a couple of things about it I really don't like. Personally it's a bit busy for my tastes... but that's just me. So long as you like it then that's all that matters on that respect.

However the parrot fish and gold barbs aren't really suitable long term so just thought I'd give you the heads up there. And also it seems a bit heavily stocked, but so long as you're testing regularly and doing the changes necessary to keep the nitrates down then fair enough. :)

As for the plants, what elise meant was they they are non aquatics. Therefore when fully submerged eventually they rot and so tend to cause a spike in the ammonia and/or nitrites. Obviously not very good for your fish. :/

Gotta say I do love the background colour and the rock layout. Plus they are awesome pics, very clear and colourful :D

Oh i see, right so my plants are just a time bomb. I shall look into proper aquatic plants. Thankyou

I do like my tank looking busy but i also think it might be a tad over stocked. But yes i do keep a check on my water quality and have small weekly water changes and nobody has died for a long time, weather i'm just being lucky for now lol.

I am waiting to sell my computer as i have a laptop now and then i will be uprading to a 200L tank so they will have some more room.

Can i ask whay will be the issue with the parrot fish (her name is pots if she is a girl lol) and the barbs? I have to admit the parrot fish wasn't intensional as it was originally my girlfriends. She bought a pair but the other just bullied it horribly, she was just forced up the side of the filter all the time and hadn't got a look in at food for 3 days so i adopted her, which so far she has seemed happy so i would hate for it to go all wrong as my entire tank seems to be in harmony at the moment lol

Cheers again for the advise

If you check out the planted section there is a stickied thread in the 'PARC' section with good sites to order plants from, then there is also the classified section :)

weather i'm just being lucky for now

Who knows lol. Personally I'm in the camp of 'I wouldn't risk it'. But that's not to say you will have problems. That's why I was just commenting and leaving it to you to make your own judgement.

Purely the eventual fully grown size. But if you've got an upgrade planned then I can't see any short term problem with them in there. :)

Thankyou I will deffinatly have a look at that as it's something thats always bugged me abit, not having a clue about the plants, partly the reason i'm back on the forum.

And hopefully when i upgrade in a couple of weeks (if all goes as planned) the issues with over stocking and water quality issues should be just a memory lol.

Thankyou for all the advise thus far, all comments are welcome, just not too bad lol.
