Increase Fertility

well my pair spawned and until yesterday I was nearly convinced it was two females however there is one baby to come out of the entire batch. is there anyway to increase the males fertility? or could it be due to the stress of travelling as they spawned a week after I purchased them

Is your water very hard? What is your Ph and Gh/Kh?? Sometimes if the water is hard the sperm cannot penetrate the eggs as well. This will leave you with a smaller batch of fry. Investing in an R/O unit may be in order.

Dude you got to learn to keep the ones you aleady have alive before you start worrying about trying to breed them. Besides that im pretty sure crossing those two strains is going to make a horribly ugly looking discus.

I can't stop them laying eggs, looks like they were eating the eggs anyway as the baby was gone a couple of hours later, just thought if they were laying eggs to give them the best chance possibly. my other tank seems to be ok now that I've stopped adding medication so think i accidentally poisoned them.

DiscusLova the ph is 6.6 and not sure what the KH is but i imagine it is pretty low

Then it should be fine for breeding. Your really can't do too much else but add a little methylene blue to aid the eggs from developing fungus. If the parents continue to eat the eggs you may want to rear the fry artificially or some people put up a mesh guard around the eggs. This will allow the fish to fan their eggs but not eat them. I agree with Jim though, in that you should sort out the problems in your other tank before you begin to rear VERY needy fry.

yeah i've moved the two discus downstairs and going to leave them to whatever they are going to do, whether it be raise fry or have a good meal. main thing is they are happy and strangely even more so now they have a plant.

actually scared to mention the other tank at the moment as everyone still seems happy and healthy. maybe the water conditioner is helping. so fingers crossed that continues

not sure, they paired up a few months ago in a community tank. but i'd imagine they are quite a young pair
