The old bulbs on my 15-gallon tank are getting dim, but I can't find an exact match. The tank came (used) with 110V/15W bulbs. Can I safely replace them with 120V/25W bulbs?

Also, the originals are short, stubby little things. The replacements are longer, which might mean more heat. I wouldn't want to melt the plastic housing on the tank lid.

In practical applications, the answer would be "generally, yes." I would think the same logic would apply to aquarium use. They'll burn brighter than your 15 W bulbs did...

...and hotter, too. More wattage = more heat.

pendragon!

Thanks, my wife just called me to say that she found the short bulbs in a 120v/15W version. That sounds safe.
