i am  not sure whats going on in my tank . a few weeks back i had moved my tank from one side of my house to the other side and  i replaced the gravel with pool filter sand. after a few days i decided to get some new fish thinking everything is ok in my tank, i got a angle fish and a blue ram. with in a day or 2 they died. i thought ok well it is petsmart so ill just go get another angle and ram so i did that, not seeing till i got home the the ram had a white fuzzy bump on its fin  and in a few days they died . so i returned them and got my money back.

now about a week since i got my money back i have fish dying left and right. in the past 48 hours 2 rams have died i neon tetra and a red barb have died. one of my rams had bumps on its head and side of its face. the other one seemed fine ....... well they where died  but they didnt have any bumps on them.

i dont know what to do i got know what my water specs are ill know more tomorrow when i get it checked.

have any of you heard of pool filter being a problem or did i need to wait to put my fish in my tank? i also have a home made co2 babbler in my tank for my plants could that mess up things? or is it the dead ram with the bump making every thing go south? any help would be great!

You didnt cycle
You used rams to fish in cycle
You used angels to fish in cycle
You got them from petsmart

This is why your fish died

i saved half the water of my 40 gallon tank would it still need to cycle? i had it up for about to years before.
i have 2 Bolivians about 1 year old and a angel fish 2 years old in there right now what should i do?
do you think the fish that had a white spot had a bacterial or other issue that could be spreading?

It could be any number of things.
Gravel holds beneficial bacteria as well as a filter so I would guess one problem could be that in changing the substrate your tank went through another cycle?
The sand may not have been suitable?
The new fish may have bought something in?

You said "after a few days i decided to get some new fish thinking everything is ok in my tank", your tank would still be stabilizing from the move so this would not have been ideal.

In respect to "a few weeks back i had moved my tank from one side of my house to the other side", how long is a few weeks?  How long between the move and adding the new fish, you state a few days?

As per my previous comment you lost a lot of good bacteria in the gravel.  What sort of filter do you have?  Was this cleaned before or during the move and how did you clean it?

What should you do?
Get an API liquid test kit as soon as you can (check the expiry date on it) and take at least daily (I sometimes do twice daily) readings of the water and write down the readings to see what might be going on with the water chemistry.
If it is going through another cycle you will have to do a lot of water changes to help get it balanced again.

I have not used sand in any of my aquariums as yet, but did you rinse it well?  Depends where it had been stored and whether it had been exposed to any chemicals etc.  A tip I was given when thinking of putting bricks in an aquarium (since changed my mind) is to chip a bit off, put it in some water, then test the water to see if it is leaching anything unpleasant prior to use.  This would have potentially been a good thing to have done with the sand?  Someone with more sand experience maybe able to advise further.

If you can it is advisable to get a small quarantine tank so you can isolate any new fish in the future prior to adding them to your main tank.  Two weeks is usually long enough.  Make sure it is large enough for the fish you plan to bring in, but not too large to maintain.  I put mine away when not needed but can set it up in no time as I use filter media and water from existing tanks when it is required.  It has no substrate in the bottom of it so that it can be easily cleaned between new fish coming in.

Can you tell us what size tank you have?
Can you add your location into your profile as it helps with advising as different countries have different equipment etc.
Let us know your readings when you get the API test kit, until you know these it is difficult to advise you further on what might be going on.
