I know it has been a while, so just to refresh some memories, here is a pic of my "Big Boy Tank" I hope you like it.

OK, so Gus was being shy, he is up 12" long and Pacu has reached 20"...

nice fish :) i dont usually like coloured gravel but them colours look great with the pacu.how big do they grow?

He could get up to 30" but will probably stay this size for the rest of his life, which will be about 10 more years or so, he is 2 at the moment. Thanks, it really brings out his colors, here he is in the daytime when he is more colorfull.

it does bring out his colour nicely.i know nothing about pacu do they eat veg and plants?whats its diet?

I see you have RBP's, well, mine is the vegitarian version of yours. I feed him pellets (green ones) and he gets cuccumber, lettuce, and various other veggies here and there. I got him 2 years ago when he was only the size of a quarter, started off in a 10gal and moved to his 55gal 8 months ago. He has doubled in size since the move over, ironically, so has my sail-fin he shares the tank with. Here is an older shot of him before he got 12" long.

are pacu active fish?a 55g dont sound big enough for a 20"fish to me,but like i said i know nothing about them

nice fish, but i think you're gonna need to upgrade again to at least a 100g for both the sailfin & pacu.
otherwise it'd be a bit like you living in the garden shed, with no toilet.

(or at least a tank 2 1/2 feet in depth, so they can turn round!)

If you check aquariacentral there are people with 200lb Pacu so that tank will not be big enough. Also the Pacu are very strong and will easly smash most tank glass.

Do you know how big a pacu has to be to weigh 200lb?

Pacu do grow big but I think you should do some research before you pull numbers out of your ***.

that is a way to small tank for a pacu. Please get a bigger tank or rehome the fish for your fishes sake.

i did think that^^^ but im not one for flaming people,at the end of the day people keep fish however they want

Well your pacu is amazing!

Btw, just to drop this, your pacu can reach over 36 inches (i've seen them at about 4 feet), and I would say a tank over 500 gallons min, even though something like a 900 gallon would be a heck of a lot better. They never truly stop growing, and can live about 50 years. Just something to think about.

But, I do love your pacu really :p, I've always loved pacus, but they just get to be too much. I had one over a foot long in a 65 once, I thought it was going to break the tank one day.
