Im Toying With Getting A Rio 125

im toying with getting a 125ltr for my room, would love to go bigger but its not going to be possible.

i would like to put a pair of firemouths in there once its cycled.

looking for your guys opinions on if its going to be too small for them.

I'd go for a vision 180 which is 91cm in length if you can fit it in the designated space.

A 125 seems a bit small for 2 fish that will get get to around 6 inches. If it was a rio 180 then it COULD work. Even though they are 1 of the smaller cichlids they are still cichlids so they will more than likely get aggressive when bigger if kept in a small tank.

I have a spare 130 litre tank but would think of putting Firemouths in it. Only cichlid I'd say would be dwarf species. Some people I know have kept one firemouth in a 55 gallon (250 litre) and they have said the Firemouths still get aggressive

I had one within a community tank in my 300ltr. It was actually really well behaved with the other cichlids in there.

Unfortunately I had to leave that tank behind at my ex's

I would assume that a pair would be ok in a 125 fr about a year then would need moving to a bigger tank when almost fully grown

The bigger the tank the less likely you are to have aggression so a 300 would be fine but also every fish is different so you might find that you have a firemouth that is calm and then replace for another firemouth which could be an absolute nightmare.

Tou could try them in a 125 for a while but you would have to be careful that the fish doesn't get stunted. At the end of the day the dish still need the room to grow comfortably.

If not a pair of firemouths would I be able to have one electric blue jack Dempsey? Obviously getting a bigger tank within a year?

The other option would be a pair of figure 8 puffers

An electric blue should be ok although they are difficult to care for and have been known to die of unknown reasons. I'm not saying yours will but they are hard to keep.

I have no experience with puffers so wouldn't like to comment there

Figure 8's are brackish, so if serious about them have a pst in the oddball or Brackish sections.
