 Hi ya all, just wanted to vent how annoyed I feel.

I have mentioned before that I know someone who has a fish tank and their attitude is "do nothing and if the fish haven't died so it must be ok".

They have had a tank up an running for about 5 weeks, one plant, about 12 neons, one platy. Never done a water change, not lost any fish and have not got any algae growing even though its has sun on it quite a few hours a day - tank looks as clean as a newly filled tank would. (I have offered numerous times to test their water for them, especially as the tank must be cycling, but they say, fish are ok so water must be).

Well today I popped round and they have bought a new fish, got it last wednesday.

They told me that the lfs shop said it was a clown loach, (this is the lfs I told them never to use because they are useless and always have dead fish in their tanks).

Took one look :fun: - Well it's a Pleco (exactly which type not too sure yet but I think its Hypostomus Plecostomus (The Plecostomus Catfish)) I'll get photo when I can.

It cost him £6.00 is about 4 inches (body) and sits sucking on the glass right by the heater most of the time.

The (approx 12 gallon) tank has no ornaments, no wood, no rocks etc. just one plant in the centre. I asked him what food has he got for the Plec and he said that he has just the flake that he feeds the neons and platy with. I suggested that he put in some lettuce today and bought some algae wafers. :grr:

Please do not get me wrong, I have no problem with anyone who has no knowledge of fish, i didn't when I started out and my knowledge is only the tip of the iceberg now. I do however struggle, when someone doesn't even want to learn anything, or appears not to care if their fish die. But even more frustrating is the fact the - luck or what - his fish don't die they seem to survive whatever he throws at them. :S

Thanks for listening to my moan - I feel a lot calmer now

i know how you feel :( it seems like people who do everything right for their fish, have no luck, but people who don't give a damn never have problems. :(

Thats soooo annoying! I think if one of my friends (I won't mention a name on here...) was to egt one, they'd not listen to a word I'd say, but the main problem would be over-caring for them. She'd probably over-feed, over-waterchange and just about everything else you can think of, which, isn't being careless, just over-caring. I don't think she'd listen if I told her not to do this, even though, I would be the fish "expert" among the two of us. She thinks she knows everything about fish, more then I do (which I have to admit, isn't much compared to a lot of people's knowledge on here) at least, and yet, she keeps asking me stupid questions which when I tell her the answer then explain that I've already told her a million times, she just shrugs and makes some stupid excuse.

Sorry for this rant and if you can't understand it because of stupid typing errors, then I'm sorry about that. Don't get me wrong, she's my best friend, but she's also my worst enemy at times...oh my life is so confuzzling...anyone wanna swop?

I know i have taken great care of my fish and havelost 6 over about a 2 month period lost 1 today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think it is partly b/c they do better when u just let them be not sure tho

Man, I know exactly what you feel like!!! I have a friend who gave me a huge fantail goldfish (5 inches long) for safekeeping for a while. I put it in my Green Frog tank cuz I had nowhere else to put it, but since it is so dirty and frogs can be so delicate, I'm worried that my frogs are going to get ammonia poisoning. So I asked her if I could put it in the fish pond with my other goldfish where it would have plenty to eat, clean water, and more space than it could ever hope for. But NOOOOO! My friend is worried that the fish will die over the winter, so she wants to take it back so that she can put it back in a 2 gallon that it can barely turn around in. I keep telling her that this is cruel, that it's 100% fatal (like putting it in the pond would kill it!!) but she won't listen to me.

She makes me SOOOOO mad sometimes!!!! :grr:

OK, it just makes me upset when my friend won't listen to me. She has to be the expert. On everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! She is the expert on fish. She always has to have the best arguments on where and how to keep fish, when she knopws nothing. Its kinda like telling her that many people keep bettas in a 1gal tank and they are fine, and have a good full life. But no. She'd probably put it in a 55gal or something so that "it doesn't get stunted" or something stupid like that. Incedently I haven't told her that many people keep them in 1gals, just to be on the safe side.

Sorry again for my rant and if you got this far, I commend you.

when ever my friends want fish they always come to me first and i go with them to my most trust worthy lfs and make sure everything i alright,

other people just make me mad :grr:

That sucks but this is kind of a pointless thread

I think your comment is very unfair. :grr: This forum is for many things, learning about fish, helping to solve problems, having fun, sharing experiences and emotions, and sometimes for some people its a way of having someone to talk to if they need to vent.

If you find a thread pointless then you do not need to read it all and then add an unkind comment. I have read many threads that "for me" have no meaning, but they are very important to the person who has written the thread and therefore I would not tell them their thread is pointless because I wouldn't want to hurt their feelings. :p

Don't think it is a pointless thread at all.
It started off as someone wanting to have a rant about someone they know who doesn't take care of their fish properly. (Freedom of speech!)
If other people want to post their views on the topic then fine and if they want a rant of their own then it seems at the moment this is the thread to do it on.
Sorry if this seems harsh, I don't mean it to be.
I have had a problem recently with my own fish. I have lost quite a few. I will admit that it is because I haven't been looking after them too well recently, I have had a lot of family problems and unfortunatly the fish have taken a back seat. I have fed them etc but I didn't do a water change for a couple of months and the consequences have been bad. I have lost a few mollies, 2 otos, my king of the tank Sinatra (red betta) and a butterfly fish. I did a water check and there was ammonia in but not high. Have now done a water change and everything is beginning to stabalise and the fish look happier. Now I need to buy some more stress coat and melafix.
Sorry for my rant but I am upset with myself for letting things get so bad!

OK, i know i have not tested my water until last week but mine was purely a money issue. If i were your friend id let you test my water to see if everything is ok but since im far from anyone and had no one to help... i admitting lost a few fish :( but i do care unlike your friend seems to.
Just try to keeppp helping him
FOR THE FISH :D

hope everything goes ok
