Today I brought home a quarter sized angelfish and a clown loach. Recently I lost some fish because my apartment building wasn't ready for the first cold spell and a heater in one of my tanks got all screwed up.
Well I had the fish in a bucket and I was slowy acclimating them. I usually spend about a 1/2 hour doing so. My evil cat knocked the bucket over (he's never done this b4) and i found both fishes on the floor. I quickly picked them up and just put them in the tank. They are still alive but I don't know if they will be able to survive this. I feel so bad. :(
Has this ever happened to anyone and did your fish survive this?

Just turn the tank lights out and let them settle down in peace and quiet, hope they will be ok, what was the ph of the store to your tank ph.

Fish are quite hardy and can survive what we think would be catasrophic, and then die of a small amonia spike. I hope yours are ok, good job the evil cat did not eat them.

Well my ph is always 7 cuz i have a ton of plants. I don't know what the ph at the LFS is which is why i try to take time to acclimate. I will go turn the lights off now.

Good luck.

Good luck, Gaya!

A couple of months ago I inadvertantly syphoned an over-inquisitive Rasbora onto my patio at night. I eventually found him (about five minutes later) and he was very still (until I picked him up!) I placed him back into the tank, with the lights off, and he survived his experience :)

Thanks guys. I appreciate the kind words.

When it happened I started to get flippant with my man because technically it's his cat and then his feelings were her too (my bad). I'm having a bad fish week.

I did a major overhaul and re-aquascaped evrything in my tank, which involved pulling out all of the tank decorations and fake plants and placing them onto a towel on the floor. After about 5-7 minutes of gravel vacuuming (could have been longer, really not sure how long it took to vacuu,m the 55 gallon) I picked up the plants one by one to rinse them off and I found one of my clown loaches lying on the towel. It didn't appear to be breathing (or gasping for air) and I picked it up off the floor. As I held it in my hand, I felt a little twitch, so I drooped it into the tank. It swam a little crooked toward a cave, and then just rested for a day. That was 3 months ago and it is still alive and kicking (and swimming straight).

I've accidentally taken my clown loach out of the tank. It was only out for a minute, and didn't seem bothered when I put it back in the water.

Hi gaya1111 :)

Sometimes fish will surprise you with their will to live. :flex: After all, they are creatures of nature, and Mother Nature isn't always gentle. If they were just out of the water briefly they might well be OK. :D

You guys are giving me hope!
Well the loach's slime coat did look a bit dry. He's calmed down now and seems the little angel is breathing better as well. Though I'm afraid of fungus or something. Think I will do a water change tonight and hope for the best.

just wanted to give you guys an update. Both of my fish seem to be doing great. The clown has taken to the other two and they're paling aroud and the little angel is coasting along. Knock on wood I think everythings gonna be ok. :D

I was watching TV once and was just changing the DVD when there was a little brown thing drop on the floor next to me. One of my white clouds had jumped out of the water, through a tiny hole where the mains cable feeds through and fallen 4 feet to the carpet. Once I realised what it was I used a piece of card to shovel him up and put him back in.

Despite initially having some carpet fibres stuck to him, he has survived a further 8 months.
