I'm Scared Ordering 4 Discus!

no offence but i would of gone with kenny. youre talking $9 per fish difference for top notch discus. dont take me wrong i hope when they arrive that i am proved wrong and you have some nice fish .

fingers crossed for you :good:

my discus came from david lai a sponsor in bidka.

Not trying to be rude and I hope your first are wonderful and what you expected. But you could of had top notch discus for a very similar price I was presuming you were getting a great offer. Personally after having bad experiences with certain breeders and talking to quite a few people I choose to get my Discus from Hans never had a bad fish and fantastic customer support.

I still have room for 1-2 more fish I can still try other breeders. This not the end of the world. Don't worry to much for me guys ;) I have a good feeling about this. Is there any other type of fish that people put so much importance on getting from the perfect breeder/importer? Maybe koi? I feel like I'm looking for the best English bulldog breeder.

Gosh Now the heat is on for me. I hope these fish look good or I'm going to hear a lot of I told you so.

It's interesting that this much attention to breeders/importers is not extended as far as other SA cichlids  Normally it's buy any seemingly healthy fish from a shop, and that's it  There is an element of snobbery about some Polys though - "Oh they must be wild caught to be any good".

Good luck Snowflake, hope they turn out good and healthy :good:

The "Must haves" and "Specifics" are much more common the more expensive or exotic you get, just part of the trade B-) . I get an ear full from a couple pleco mad mates about were I buy my plecos from even. Some who willing spend 250+ on plecos :S . But I can tell you for sure the more you get into discus the more you'll be hearing about the specifics. To most who have discus they are happy with good fish. But the real serious discus addicts have very sharp eyes especially shape or other minute details that you and me probably wouldn't even notice

Actually on the expensive note I was working in the Water Quality Lab at the aquarium near me today and was told to check water for Seadragon exhibit in which they were getting ready to add 2 10,000 dollar seadragons. Hope I didn't mess it up -_-

How it goes well Snowflake. Exciting stuff !

Got four more discus as friends for Eric yesterday myself ! No time to give details now, as got to rush off to work.

Not as bad as the $65,000 golden Arrowana at my LFS hahah I'm scared to even stand by the tank.

Yeah, that's true, smaller/rarer Pleco species are expensive as well. I paid £25 for my L075 when he was really tiny. My Red Spot Sev wasn't cheap; never seen them around here, and they were all fantastic examples, so willing to pay it. Funnily enough the other week I spotted a batch of Red's in my local Seapets  However they were very washed out/nipped, and lethargic.

I find it weird there doesn't seem to be any specific Severum breeders, for example, in the UK.

I do like Discus, but do feel that I'd get bored of them eventually, once the novelty of their beauty wore off. Also I cannot cope doing anymore than a 50% w/c a week  Takes ages taking 50% out of all my tanks. I appreciate the challenge there, but do think there is enough challenge getting semi-aggressive large cichlids to live together harmoniously as it is

65,000!!! :X that is insane you must be located in a wealthy area if they even stock that haha

I understand the annoyance of your LFS getting fish AFTER you buy them elsewhere or get them shipped but you do tend to get better quality anyway. As for plecos the most I've spent so far is 34.99 on a gold nugget and 29.99 on a l199 zebra. I really want an l046 zebra but not 100% sure on my pleco skills to fork out 100 dollars on the cheap end 260 on average :/

I wasn't annoyed because mine is a much better fish, so was worth the journey. I may have been tempted to get them from my LFS if they had had them in before, but it turned out for the best as the ones at the LFS are not as nice as my guy :good:
